THE CITY HEALING
PROJECT

the city healing projact

This work is part of an ongoing series. It began with my accidental discovery of a ruined city, covered by cable wires, where I marveled at nature's resilience and healing power. Through repeated travels and urban exhibitions, I realized that cities also possess this same resilience, driven by the power of tradition and the life force born from the collective unconscious.

In my subsequent creations, I incorporated more regional cultural influences, experiencing the fascinating and sometimes controversial collisions between cultures. These experiences highlighted the importance of communication and interaction, leading me to reframe my work from an interactive perspective.

Starting from comics and illustrations to large-scale installations, the work has now evolved into interactive art. My aim is to strengthen connections between people, nature, and cultures through my art.

The Origin Of The Works

During a painful time, I walked into a forest and saw ruins covered in plants and flowers. It deeply moved me, as if nature were healing the scars of a forgotten land.

I experiment with different way to express my concept

COMIC

I created a comic story to describe this healing power, trying to narrate it through myths and legends. This has inspired me to imagine the concept of natural deities.

  ● ILLUSTRATION

In the illustrations, I depicted the deity in different states across various spaces and times, inspired by my travel experiences.

During setup,I faced several challenges. The stitching wasn't perfect, causing cracks in the inflatable material,so I patched it up repeatedly. Its size made it hard to transport, especially on uneven terrain, and I often carried it by hand.Surrounded by it during setup,I felt restricted and struggled to breathe in the heat.It felt like shaping immense power, yet being limited by it,much like a monk's or missionary's journey.

After the pandemic, people have experienced great trauma, and even in Shanghai, there’s still a sense of loss. People rarely gather, and the city lacks vitality.I hope to awaken the “collective unconscious” within people through my art, helping them heal.

“We don’t need to understand each other, but we need to embrace.”

I hope to break the centralized human-machine system through my project, using the act of embracing nature for healing, creating resonance between people and between humans and nature.

Huadiwan, once known for its rich plant fossils and flower market, is now in disrepair, prompting the younger generation to seek transformation.

Jung mentioned that individual experiences are not only influenced by the collective unconscious, but also have a reciprocal effect on the collective. As more people express similar experiences through art, philosophy, or behavior, the content of the collective unconscious may be updated and expanded.

I aim to explore the dialogue between new individuals and traditional local culture through my work. A giant flower deity will represent regional traditions, equipped with sensors to allow interaction with passersby. This symbolizes how individuals can naturally influence the collective, beyond notions of good or evil.

I added colorful flowers representing Huadiwan to the transparent deity and equipped it with sensors. When people interact via the console, the deity's veins light up, and the flowers at its heart glow and pulse.

"Memoir Unforgotten" is my illustration project, depicting moments of everyday life and memories.
